Marriage is a very important step taken by two persons.
To help you begin your life together,
we want to give you information about weddings at the First United Methodist Church.
To be married at First United Methodist Church you will need to:
1. MEET with the Wedding Coordinator to make plans for your wedding. She will discuss with you all the options and the possibilities for services in our church. You can arrange a meeting by calling the church at 1-440-322-6622
2. COMMIT to working with the pastor who will be presiding at your wedding to thoughtfully prepare for marriage. The pastor may ask you to attend a workshop and/or counseling sessions. The goal of all of this work with the pastor is to help you build your marriage on a solid foundation.
3. IF YOU LIVE in the Elyria area, we urge you to regularly attend our worship service for the three months prior to your wedding. You are coming to our church to make a covenant with God and each other and regular attendance at worship will help you be able to fulfill your vows to God and to each other.
Our concern for you is not to just perform a wedding service, but to make a contribution to your life. When you worship together, you begin building a positive marriage, which can withstand many of the pressures of society.

The Pastors of this Congregation are responsible for any worship service held in the building. Unless otherwise discussed, one of our Pastors will perform the service. If you would like, another Pastor or Priest may co-officiate, provided arrangements are made well in advance with the officiating Pastor.
Although the wedding coordinator will help you define the details of the wedding, and the pastors will assist you in planning the service itself, there are several decisions, which only the bridal couple can make.
Because the wedding is a worship service, no flash pictures or special lighting is allowed during the service. Photographers will be allowed to stand in the back to take pictures during the service. Video or audio recordings may be used.
If you are using the services of a professional wedding consultant, or if your florist or photographer is providing one, please inform the church Wedding Coordinator. They will work with the coordinator on the day of the wedding from the time you are ready to line up until after the bride goes down the aisle
 Music
You will need to contact the church for the organist. If you are having a soloist, you should assist in arranging a time for the organist and soloist to rehearse. We discourage the use of prerecorded accompaniments and encourage the use of live accompaniment. If a soloist wishes to use prerecorded accompaniment, the recording and words need to be made available to the wedding coordinator who may consult the organist and/or pastor for approval. You will be asked to provide the names of the other professional services—florist, photographer, etc. If they are not familiar with the church, or have any questions regarding logistics or church policies, please refer them to the Wedding Coordinator.
Fee's
Please be prepared to make a deposit of $150.00 at the initial consultation. The balance of fees is to be paid to the church office by noon the Monday before the wedding. Your WEDDING LICENSE is also due at that time.
